Course Subject Change from SPED to ASEI
This action revises the subject of specified Special Education (SPED) graduate courses to American Sign Language-English Interpreting (ASEI).
ASEI is a concentration in the M.Ed. Special Education major; however, admission into that concentration has been under suspension for several years with no plans to revive it in the near future. However, the courses (SPED subject) that are specific to ASEI are still active and used by students seeking licensure through the non-degree graduate ASEI program. The concentration will be administratively inactivated in fall 2021 and will no longer be associated with Special Education. While the course subject at the undergraduate level was changed to ASEI when the program was elevated from a concentration under SPED to its own major in 2017, this was not done at the graduate level. As a result, ASEI graduate curriculum has had to go through SPED for approval. Clearly, ASEI faculty need to have control over their courses.
This change should apply to graduate non-degree seeking students in ASL/English Interpreting.
