When you're exploring Kent State’s academic programs in the University Catalog, you’ll see a section on each program page called Program Delivery, under which is listed Fully Online, Mostly Online and/or In Person. But what does that actually mean for your experience as a student?
Let’s break it down:
Fully Online
You can complete the entire program from anywhere — no campus visits required.
These programs are designed to be 100% online, so you can log in from home, a coffee shop or wherever you work best. Courses are just as rigorous and engaging as in-person ones but are built for maximum flexibility.
With a fully online program, you will not be required to come to campus for any course requirement or other instructional activities.* One-on-one meetings with your academic advisor and course instructors can be held via telephone, email or video conferencing (e.g., Teams, Zoom). However, you are always welcomed on a Kent State campus to take advantage of any student-support resources and activities.
- *
An internship, practicum or clinical experience may require you to be present at a specific location.
A fully online program is great for students who:
- Don’t live near a Kent State campus or location
- Need a completely flexible schedule
- Are self-motivated and comfortable with online learning
Mostly Online
You’ll complete 50 percent or more of your coursework online — but not all of it.
This online/in-person delivery (also called “hybrid” or "blended”) means that half or more of the program is online, giving you flexibility in your schedule. However, some courses will require you to come to campus.
A mostly online program is great for students who:
- Need flexibility but can come to campus occasionally
- Are balancing school with work or other responsibilities
- Want the convenience of online learning with some in-person contact
In Person
You’ll attend most (if not all) of your classes on campus.
This is the classic college experience: sitting in a classroom, meeting your professors face-to-face and working alongside classmates in real time. Some classes might use online tools or resources, but the heart of your learning happens on campus.
Even while enrolled in an in-person program, you will be able to take some courses online. However, the expectation is most of your courses will be offered on campus.
An in-person program is great for students who:
- Like structure and in-person interaction
- Live close to a Kent State campus or location
- Prefer learning in a classroom setting
