About This Program
The Environmental Geology minor prepares students to integrate concepts and knowledge of environmental geology and communicate these issues to a variety of audiences, including policymakers and the public. Scientific knowledge about environmental geology processes is used to inform different areas of formal study such as anthropology, architecture, geography, political science, environmental law, environmental studies and recreation and park management.
Students in the minor gain broad knowledge of geology and the environmental impacts of anthropogenic-induced change on the earth in the immediate short-term and throughout longer periods. Competencies focus on human-water-rock interactions at Earth's surface (the critical zone).

What does delivery mean?
Admission Requirements
Admission to this minor is selective, open only to students who have a minimum 2.000 overall Kent State University GPA. No Kent State University GPA is required if the student is a first-semester freshman or transfer student admitted in good standing.
Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates of this program will be able to:
- Apply fundamental concepts and methods of Earth science, including geology, to analyze and interpret geological phenomena and environmental issues.
- Collaborate effectively with peers and professionals in the field of Earth science to solve geologic and environmental problems, integrating knowledge from various disciplines within Earth science.
- Understand and explain key Earth processes, such as plate tectonics, erosion and climate change, and demonstrate an understanding of how these processes impact our society and the environment.
- Understand and communicate Earth science concepts and findings effectively to both scientific and non-scientific audiences using appropriate visual aids and technologies.
